Grammy-winning reggae artist Burning Spear has inked a North American distribution deal for his Burning Spear Records label with MRI/Ryko Distribution.

First releases under the deal, due Tuesday (June 8) are the double CD "Burning Spear -- Live In Paris/Zenith '88" and the concert DVD "Home to My Roots." Burning Spear's 2003 studio release "Freeman" will be reissued Aug. 31; the first 10,000 copies will include a previously unreleased dub version of the album.

The deal also covers the release of Burning Spear's next studio project, due in 2005.

In other news, Burning Spear (born Winston Rodney) will headline the Earthday tour, a 43-city run of major festivals and club venues.

The tour begins June 11 at Ziggy's in Winston-Salem, N.C., and includes such stops as the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn. (13), Milwaukee SummerFest (29) and numerous large clubs and theaters. Burning Spear has dates on the books until Sept. 19 at Central Park Summerstage in New York.

Burning Spear is booked and managed by his wife, Sonia Rodney.
