Comedian/actor George Lopez will host the fifth annual Latin Grammy Awards. The show will air live on CBS Sept. 1 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Lopez hosted last year's Latin Grammys, setting a distinctly different tone from the formality of previous shows. Although some Latin groups would later criticize Lopez's irreverent brand of humor, the 2003 Latin Grammys attained the highest ratings ever for the awards show.

Lopez is the creator, writer and star of the ABC sitcom "George Lopez." He will be filming a movie for ABC in late June. He just published his autobiography, "Why Are You Crying?," on Simon
and Schuster.

Nominees for the Latin Grammys will be announced July 14.
