Radio group shifts to Media Audit.

Infinity Broadcasting has elected not to renew its contract with research company Arbitron, the leading provider of radio ratings in the United States. Instead, Infinity has inked a multi-year deal with the Media Audit, effective July 1.

The Media Audit is a product of Houston-based International Demographics, a media and marketing research company.

In a statement, Infinity president/COO Joel Hollander says, "After lengthy negotiations with Arbitron, it has become clear that we will be unable to reach a mutually satisfactory financial arrangement."

Infinity has 185 U.S. radio stations.

As a result of the loss of Infinity, Arbitron says its 2004 revenues will be lower than previously anticipated. Arbitron president/CEO Steve Morris says in a statement that the company remains open to negotiating a new contract with Infinity.
