Italian collecting society SIAE has appointed Gianni Profita as its director general, following a meeting of the governing body in Rome today (June 29). Profita, 43, is a former director general of the cinema department at the Italian Culture Ministry.

He will report to SIAE president Franco Migliacci and the other members of the governing body.

Migliacci was himself appointed president in late June 2003, replacing government-appointed special commissioner Mauro Masi. Masi had in turn been appointed in 1999, in order to address the society's disastrous financial situation.
