Catherine Bell, GM of British-based independent publisher Chrysalis Music, has been appointed to the new post as director of rights.

In this new role, Bell will represent the company in all areas relating to rights and collection society issues. Her promotion follows her election last year to the boards of both the Performing Right Society (PRS) and the Music Publishers Association (MPA).

"This appointment recognizes the plethora of new challenges we face in today's music industry, specifically in the ever burgeoning online environment,” explains Chrysalis Music managing director Alison Donald. “We believe it's crucial that the company's voice concerning rights issues is properly articulated, and Catherine's extraordinary contribution to the culture of Chrysalis Music make her the perfect pioneer for this vital new role," Donald adds.

Bell's previous business affairs duties will now be handled by former Warner Chappell executive Josh Smith, who joins Chrysalis Music as business affairs manager.
