Outgoing HMV Group COO Brian McLaughlin will take the role as chairman of Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy Fundraising committee at the end of this year. During its annual general meeting this week, the British charity's members voted McLaughlin, a committee member, to succeed incumbent co-chairmen Derek Green and Jeremy Marsh. Green and Marsh will respectively step-down from their joint-roles after 4 years to become vice chairmen.
As previously reported, McLaughlin retires from HMV at year's end after more than 36 years' service.
McLaughlin has a long association with the charity. He has spearheaded a string of Nordoff-Robbins fundraising initiatives such as the annual HMV Football Extravaganza. In June 2002 he was awarded the Silver Clef Chairman's Special award for more than £1million ($1.8 million) raised for the charity; the previous year he was the recipient of the prestigious Music Industry Trust award, another Nordoff Robbins fund-raising event.
Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy celebrates its 30th anniversary next year. The charity's initiatives have raised more than £20 million ($36 million) to date.
