The board of directors of the Natonal Music Publishers Assn. (NMPA) will meet July 21 to discuss how the organization will proceed when the contract for president/CEO Ed Murphy expires in December.

NMPA chairman Irwin Robinson denies talk that a search committee is in place to seek a successor for Murphy. "Ed hasn't informed us of what his future plans are," says Robinson.

Murphy joined NMPA in 1983 as executive VP, was elected president of the Harry Fox Agency (HFA) in 1984, and named president/CEO of NMPA and HFA in 1985. In 2000, leadership of the two bodies split, and Murphy remained president/CEO of NMPA. Earlier, he spent several years as president of the G. Schirmer Inc. publishing house.

Murphy is on vacation and was unavailable for comment.
