MTV Puerto Rico launched Aug. 11 through an agreement with LIN TV, owner of Puerto Rico's Channel 24. MTV Puerto Rico will air on Channel 24 in San Juan and on its repeating stations throughout the island.

Initially, MTV programming will run only from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and will feature only music videos, programmed to appeal to Puerto Rican audiences. Most videos will be in Spanish, focusing on tropical music, reggaetón, rock en español, pop and hip-hop.

The channel will evolve in the next several months to include original MTV programming, according to Jessica Roffe, programming director for MTV Puerto Rico, MTV Espanol and VH Uno.

MTV Puerto Rico is slated to open its own studios and have its own VJs by November.

MTV and MTV Espanol are already available to Puerto Rican audiences. However, MTV Latin America doesn't air on the island.
