The Lithuanian Ministry of Justice announced Monday that it sees no obstacle for French rocker Bertrand Cantat to return to France to serve an eight-year prison sentence.

In March, a tribunal in Vilnius, Lithuania found Cantat guilty of killing his companion, the actress Marie Trintignant, after hitting her several times during a row.

In June, Cantat and Trintignant's family withdrew their appeal, making the sentence final. However, Cantat's lawyers started procedures to extradite him back to France.

The Lithuanian authorities said the transfer to France could be achieved within the next two to three months. It is not known yet which prison he will be transferred to.
