Britain's Virgin Radio is planning a program that will feature the top tracks downloaded or streamed each week from Napster U.K.

Napster claims that the weekly show, "Napster Online Music Chart," is the first step in a "unique strategic marketing partnership" with Virgin Radio.

The show premieres Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. GMT -- beating the Sept. 1 launch of the U.K.'s Official Download Chart. That chart, compiled by the Official U.K. Chart Co., will have its own weekly radio countdown show on public broadcaster BBC Radio 1.

"As well as hitting our core demographic and having millions of listeners, Virgin Radio enjoys over 1 million unique online visitors a month, making it an ideal brand partner for Napster," says Leanne Sharman, Napster VP/GM for the U.K. "Partnerships are key to our approach, and Virgin Radio shares the same brand values, target audience and commitment to innovation as Napster," she says.

John Pearson, CEO of Virgin Radio, which is wholly owned by Scottish Media Group, describes the chart tie-in as "a perfect fit."
