MTV is celebrating the use of music in videogames with a new category at the 2004 Video Music Awards.

Nominees for best soundtrack from a videogame were selected by a panel of outside experts who judged on categories such as game integration, quality and variety of genres and artists.

This year's nominees include three Electronic Arts titles: "Madden NFL 2004," "Need for Speed Underground" and "SSX3." The other two, "True Crime, Streets of L.A." and "Tony Hawk's Underground," are both from Activision.

The winner will be selected by fans; online voting begins Aug. 21 via MTV.com, under the "Viewer's Choice" category.

The VMAs are set for Aug. 29 at AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami.
