Billboard's Conniff to host Aug. 30 event.
The RIAA will officially kick off its Digital Awards Program Aug. 30 at the Paris Theatre in Miami Beach.
Hosted by Billboard co-executive editor Tamara Conniff, the awards reception will recognize the first recipients of the trade group's expansion of its certification program to include downloads.
Acts on hand to receive the first digital awards are expected to include Hoobastank, Jet, Ludacris and Yellowcard. Conniff and RIAA chairman/CEO Mitch Bainwol will present the honors. Other artists eligible for the initial digital awards include OutKast, Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Jay-Z, Usher, P. Diddy, Jessica Simpson, D12 and No Doubt.
Under the digital program, sales of 100,000 digital copies of a song earn a gold award, while sales of 200,000 earn platinum honors. The RIAA will hand out multi-platinum awards for each additional 200,000 in digital sales.
