Ceremony to be held Oct. 21.

Latin Grammy-winning artists Julieta Venegas and Café Tacuba are the top nominees for this year's MTV Video Music Awards Latin America (VMALA) ceremony.

The Mexican acts received five nominations each, including video of the year for Venegas' "Andar Conmigo," directed by Santiago H. Pueyrredón, and Café Tacuba's "Eres," directed by Rogelio Sikander.

This year's top Latin Grammy winner Alejandro Sanz is tied with Argentinian acts Diego Torres and Babasónicos with four nods each, while Chilean rock band La Ley took home three nominations.

The VMALAs will air live on MTV Latin America from the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Beach on Oct. 21.

This year's award show will introduce a new category, "Hip-Hop/R&B International Artist" -- whose nominees include 50 Cent, Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas, Outkast and Usher -- for a total of 18 categories.

Nominees are voted upon by an academy of 300 music industry professionals and MTV viewers who receive their ballots by mail and vote via the Internet.

Final winners will be voted upon by fans who will cast their votes via the Internet or cell phone.
