Michael Powers has been named as senior VP of promotion at Universal South Records in Nashville. He replaces Bryan Switzer, who exited the company last week.

Powers served as senior VP of promotion and artist development for Universal Music Group Nashville's Mercury, MCA Nashville and Lost Highway imprints until the label group merged with DreamWorks earlier this year. Powers was among those let go in the transition.

In his new post, he reports to Universal South senior VP/GM Van Fletcher. While the move marks a return to Universal for Powers, Universal South is only half-owned by the major -- senior partners Tony Brown and Tim DuBois own the other half.
