Sony BMG Music Entertainment has named its upper tier of management for the territories in which it has operations outside the United States.

Tim Bowen has been appointed to oversee the company's businesses in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa; Maarten Steinkamp is tasked with Sony BMG Continental Europe; Richard Denekamp will head Sony BMG Asia; and Frank J. Welzer takes the reins at Sony BMG Latin. The executives' titles have yet to be determined.

"Together, these executives offer the very best combination of creative management and business savvy based on a wealth of experience and impressive track records," comments Sony BMG Music Entertainment COO Michael Smellie, to whom the four managers report. "I am thrilled to have such a talented team as we create a new industry leader based on our strong commitment to our repertoire centers and artists across the globe."

London-based Tim Bowen is elevated from his post as chairman/CEO of BMG U.K. and Ireland. Sources say Bowen's counterpart at Sony Music U.K., Rob Stringer, will continue in the role as head of the enlarged U.K. company.

Munich-based Steinkamp's promotion from president of international for BMG had been tipped on Billboard.biz. Balthasar Schramm, Sony Music Germany/Switzerland/Austria president will exit the company, though Sony BMG will continue to maintain offices in both Berlin and Munich. Steinkamp will continue to oversee the merged operations of Sony BMG in G/S/A for the foreseable future.

Denekamp was until now president, Asia, for Sony Music International, based in Hong Kong. His new responsibilities do not include BMG's operations in Japan, BMG Funhouse, which will continue to be overseen by its president Hide Tashiro and Tim Prescott, who was last week appointed executive VP/chief marketing officer for Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

Miami-based Welzer most recently served as chairman/CEO, Latin America, Sony Music International (SMI).
