A source confirms that Doug Morris is in negotiations to re-up as chairman/CEO of Universal Music Group, although his current contract does not run out until mid-2005. The new deal, which would run for five years, is expected to be complete in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, a source reiterates that Sylvia Rhone will assume her new post at Universal Motown Records Group on Oct. 1. It is understood that her title at the company will be determined this week. Rhone exited in March as chairman/CEO of Elektra Entertainment Group.

A Universal Music Group spokesman had no comment.
