The French Music Export Office (FMEO) has launched a mobile phone initiative to showcase French acts in Germany. "My Mobile Sounds So French" is a partnership with mobile carrier Vodafone Germany and Paris-based mobile music content provider Musiwave.

The scheme began September 15 and runs for a month. Through the pact, 18 French acts will be featured through mini-WAP accessible sites on Vodafone Germany's "Live" portal. Those acts include some of France's best-performing current music exports, such as Kyo, Miss Kittin and Tahiti 80. Musiwave delivers ringtones based on the artists' recordings, priced at €2.49 ($3) each.

The FMEO was set up in 1993 with funding from the local music industry and the French government. The initiative has since been copied by other European countries eager to boost their domestic repertoire's profile overseas.
