Sony BMG Music Entertainment executive Tim Bowen -- who has been placed in charge of operations in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa -- has made two key appointments.

Rob Stringer has been named chairman/CEO of Sony BMG Music Entertainment U.K. & Ireland. He has held the same title at Sony U.K. & Ireland since 2000.

Denis Handlin has been named chairman/CEO for Australia and New Zealand. He held the same title at Sony Music since 1996 and has been a key exec at Sony and CBS Records in the region for more than 20 years.

Stringer and Handlin both report to Bowen, whose exact title has not been determined.

Bowen, the former chairman/CEO of BMG U.K. & Ireland, was among a group of execs named earlier this week to regional leadership posts at Sony BMG. The others are Maarten Steinkamp, who will oversee Sony BMG Continental Europe; Richard Denekamp, Asia; and Frank J. Welzer, Latin.
