A published report of a pending merger between mega-managers Jeff Kwatinetz of the Firm and Irving Azoff of Azoffmusic (the Eagles, Van Halen, Christina Aguilera) is premature at best, according to sources at both companies.

A source at the Firm says talks between Azoff (manager of the Eagles, Van Halen and Christina Aguilera) and Kwatinetz (Dixie Chicks, Linkin Park) have “been off and on, off and on for years. They’re friends.”

Similarly, a source at Azoffmusic denied the report’s veracity.

Reps for neither company would comment.

Both management companies have been acquisitive in the past, most recently with Azoff’s purchase of entertainment marketing firm TBA earlier this year (Billboard, April 24).
Azoff said at the time that the TBA purchase could be just the beginning. "We're buying a bunch of stuff," Azoff said. "But we want to wait and let the smoke clear on this one first."
