The Performing Right Society, the U.K. organization that collects public-performance license fees for composers, songwriters and music publishers, has named Independent Music Group CEO Ellis Rich as its chairman for the next three years (2005-07).

Rich is the first PRS chairman from the independent sector. He takes up the post Jan. 1, succeeding David Bedford on the completion of his three-year term.

Ellis formed IMG in 1989. He was previously GM of Supreme Songs and worked in the international division of EMI Music Publishing for nearly a decade.
