EMI Music Latin America has appointed Ed McCardell VP business affairs, based in Miami.

EMI Music Latin America has appointed Ed McCardell VP business affairs, based in Miami.

McCardell will oversee all legal and business-affairs matters for EMI's Latin America region, encompassing 12 countries that include Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. He will report to EMI Latin America president/CEO Marco Bissi and EMI Music worldwide senior VP of business affairs Gareth Hopkins.

McCardell had been Sony Music International director of business affairs since 2000. Prior to that, he held legal posts with Sony Music Entertainment, including counsel in the law department from 1998-2000 and director of copyright and product administration from 1996-98.

He was counsel in the legal department of BMI from 1992-96 and a litigation associate with Jamieson Moore from 1986-92.

McCardell earned a J.D. from Rutgers Law School and a B.A. (cum laude) from Fairfield (Conn.) University.
