Digital performance rights body SoundExchange has forged a reciprocal deal with Mexican organization Somexfon.

Under the agreement, SoundExchange will distribute Somexfon's royalties to U.S. independent labels, and Somexfon will distribute SoundExchange payments to Mexican indies.

"This agreement is critically important for North American performance rights," says SoundExchange executive director John L. Simson. "SoundExchange looks forward to working closely with Somexfon to ensure that performance rights for sound recording copyright owners and performing artists are protected. We share much more than a common border. We share a love for many of the same artists, labels and repertoire."
