Flexplay Technologies, a manufacturer of limited-play DVDs, has been acquired by the Convex Group.

The deal will kick off with the release of the Neverland Films production "Noel" on the Flexplay platform next month.

Flexplay DVDs can be played for only 48 hours after being removed from a specially sealed package.

"Noel," a holiday drama directed by Chazz Palminteri, premiered at the recent Toronto Film Festival and features Susan Sarandon, Penelope Cruz and Paul Walker. The project will be available as a Flexplay DVD exclusively through Amazon.com for $4.99. The site is currently accepting pre-orders; shipments will begin the third week of November.

"Noel" will have a limited theatrical release beginning Nov. 12 and will air on TNT Nov. 28.

Atlanta-based Convex is a media and entertainment company that also owns the rights to "in-lid" CD-ROM distribution, in which discs are distributed through soft-drink lids, and the "HowStuffWorks" franchise of products.
