Deirdre McDonald has been named senior VP of industry and government relations, Sony BMG Music Entertainment. McDonald, who is based in New York, will report to Michele Anthony, executive VP, Sony BMG Music Entertainment/COO, Sony Music Label Group U.S., and Michael Smellie, COO, Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

McDonald will report to Anthony on U.S. issues, and to Smellie on international issues.

In her new role, McDonald will help plan and implement legislation, regulation and policy on a worldwide basis.

She also will work on anti-piracy initiatives, and act as a liaison to legislative bodies, governmental agencies and music industry trade groups, including the RIAA and IFPI.

She previously held a similar role at BMG.
