Daylong music/tech event set for Jan. 22.
Incoming IFPI chairman/CEO John Kennedy will deliver a keynote speech at the sixth annual MidemNet music and technology platform, to be held Jan. 22 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. It will mark Kennedy's first significant speaking engagement after formally joining the trade body at its secretariat in London.
As previously reported, the former Universal Music International president/COO will on Jan. 1 succeed Jay Berman, who is planning to retire from the IFPI and return to his native America.
Other confirmed MidemNet keynote speakers are Martin Mills, chairman of London-based indie Beggars Group; Hadi Partovi, GM MSN Entertainment and digital media services; and Sony Corporation CTO Phil Wiser.
EMI Music senior VP digital development and distribution Ted Cohen will chair the day-long session, which will pursue the theme "Digital Music: Turning up the Volume."
MidemNet will again serve as a pre-opening to the Midem international trade fair, which takes place Jan. 23-27. The 39th annual Midem will have a strong focus on the live music industry and technology.
