Pact covers world ex-U.S.

EMI Music Publishing has extended its pact with Eminem to cover the works on his new album "Encore" (Aftermath/Interscope).

The new partnership with the leading hip-hop artist and Detroit-based publishing firm 8 Mile Style Music covers rights for "Encore" for the world excluding the United States. Financial terms have not been disclosed.

The relationship between Eminem, 8 Mile Style Music and EMI began two years ago with the soundtrack to the movie "8 Mile."

"Encore" was rush-released on Nov. 12 in the United Kingdom and went straight to No. 1 on the British album chart after selling over 122,000 units in just two days, according to charts compiler the Official U.K. Charts Co.

Guy Moot, London-based EMI Music Publishing U.K. executive VP of A&R for the U.K. and Europe, was instrumental in signing the agreements.

In a statement, Joel Martin, co-founder of 8 Mile Style Music said: "EMI has proved to us-through their exploitation of the '8 Mile' soundtrack-to be the most aggressive and enthusiastic publisher in the market."
