Casey Donovan, a 16-year-old Aborigine from Sydney, won the second series of "Australian Idol" in a three-hour finale yesterday (Nov. 21). Donovan beat bookmakers' favorite Anthony Callea, a 21-year-old Melbourne-based music teacher.

The live telecast from the Sydney Opera House attracted nearly 4 million viewers for the free-to-air Ten Network. It was the biggest audience of the year for any show, says the broadcaster.

Donovan's debut single, the Dianne Warren-penned "Listen With Your Heart," was available for download on Telstra's BigPond site within minutes of her win. The singer is this week cutting her debut album for Sony BMG Entertainment Australia, due out Dec. 13.

Viewership for the series was up 15% on last year, according to Ten, generating advertising revenue of A$25 million ($19.5 million). Last year's series reaped A$30 million ($23.4 million) in CD and DVD sales for BMG Music Australia, which signed a number of contestants.
