Tracks by 50 Cent, Jay-Z and OutKast will battle for the first ringtone of the year honor at the Billboard Music Awards, to be held Wednesday (Dec. 8) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The award is based on sales tracked by the new Billboard Hot Ringtones chart.

50 Cent is a finalist with two tracks, "In Da Club" and "P.I.M.P." Jay-Z's "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" and OutKast's No. 1 Hot 100 hit "Hey Ya!" round out the category.

"We're thrilled to be the first awards show to recognize the best-selling ringtone in the U.S.," says John Kilcullen, president of the VNU Music and Literary Group and publisher of Billboard. "Billboard has long been synonymous with measuring the popularity of music. This award recognizes the growth of the cell phone as a digital commerce platform for music consumption and will be a staple of our awards show for years to come."

As previously reported, Usher and Alicia keys lead the overall nominations for the Billboard Music Awards with 13 and 12, respectively.
