London-based OD2, the Loudeye Corp.-owned digital music service provider, has expanded its international portfolio with the launch of Zabavaj.se, an online store in Slovenia.

The service is a subsidiary of Slovenian mobile operator Mobitel and will be part of the carrier's Planet 9 entertainment portal. It will feature the 400,000 copyright-protected tracks that OD2 supplies to its European Web retail clients.

The country's dominant mobile operator, Mobitel claims about 1.5 million customers. Users will be able to pay for the Web-based downloads service with the carrier's short-messaging-service payment system.

An OD2 spokesperson says the service is targeting the youth demographic.

Each track is priced in the local-currency equivalent of the €0.99 ($1.32), the same OD2 retailers charge in European Union markets.

Slovenia is the 19th country in which OD2 is operating a music site. The new store represents the company's first foray into the 10 Eastern European markets that joined the expanded European Union earlier this year.
