The Federal Communications Commission today (Dec. 7) swore in Jonathan S. Adelstein for a new term as a Commissioner, to expire June 30, 2008. He was originally confirmed in 2002 to fill out the term of Gloria Tristani.

The new term for the feisty Democrat, who views broadcast consolidation and indecency violations with a critical eye, comes with a Congressional quid pro quo, say insiders. In return for Adelstein’s reconfirmation, Republicans will expect Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee to turn down the partisan rhetoric in confirmation hearings on all but the most conservative Bush administration choices for judicial benches in the coming session.
