ASCAP will celebrate its 13th annual Latin Music Awards, El Premio Ascap, April 5 at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. The event will honor the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP's most performed Latin songs of 2004.

This year's recipient of the ASCAP Founders Award will be Ruben Blades, Billboard has learned. The honor is given to songwriters who have made "pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators."

Blades, an actor, songwriter and singer with a successful career in both Hollywood and Latin music, is currently Panama's minister of culture.
