Sony BMG Finland has hired Janne Halmkrona as A&R manager. Halmkrona replaces A&R managers Asko Kallonen and Kari Hynninen, who left the company late last year; the pair continue to work with various Sony BMG artists on an independent basis.

Halmkrona is best known in Finland as a musician; he plays guitar for popular local rock band CMX and for Black Sabbath cover band Sapattivuosi. Halmkrona has also produced local rock bands such as Absoluuttinen Nollapiste and Maj Karma.

"I've always been interested in this side of things," Halmkrona says of his appointment, "but I haven't talked openly about being interested in working at a record company. So I was surprised to get the call."

"In Finland there aren't many A&R managers around, and there aren't many opportunities to get experience as one," says Sony BMG managing director Kimmo Valtanen. "Janne's talent as a musician and producer as well as his social skills speak for him, and I believe Janne will grow to be a good A&R manager."

Sony BMG Finland's two other A&R managers -- Seppo Matintalo and Jani Jalonen -- both worked for Sony Music prior to the merger.
