Britain's home video distribution business said today (Jan. 13) that it will release a special comedy DVD in a bid to raise £1 million ($1.89 million) to aid UNICEF's Tsunami Children's Appeal. Endorsed by the British Video Assn., "The Best Comedy DVD in the World" will be released Feb. 7.

Produced by Revolver Entertainment and distributed by Pinnacle Vision, the release will be backed by a press campaign that will include TV and radio interview support from UNICEF's celebrity ambassadors. Revolver will co-ordinate marketing.

Various companies have donated their services. Replication is handled by Sonopress, authoring by Divine Lab, and St. Ives has printed the inlays.

Performers slated to appear on the DVD include British comics Ricky Gervais, Lee Evans, Jack Dee and Eddie Izzard. American comedians Richard Pryor, Jackie Mason and Bob Hope will also be featured.

In other news, Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones has been added to the bill to perform at the Jan. 22 Cardiff tsunami benefit concert. The Welsh singer today announced he will deliver a 20-minute solo set during the six-hour event.

Other acts confirmed to the line-up include Eric Clapton, Charlotte Church, Keane and Craig David.

All 60,000 tickets allocated to the event sold out Tuesday (Jan. 11). Organizers are currently looking at various elements of the production details to free up additional tickets.
