The French music industry suffered another year of decline in 2004. According to industry sources, shipments were down 15% in value compared to the previous year.

The industry experienced its first drop in value in 2003 after more than a decade of constant growth. In 2003, the trade value of music shipments in France fell 14.5% year-on-year to €1.1 billion ($1.4 billion).

Label sources say that sales in the last two months of 2004 were healthy, but the volumes shifted were not sufficient to boost the full-year results.

Industry trade body SNEP will unveil full statistics for 2004 at a media gathering Jan. 24 at the Midem trade show in Cannes.
