Pelle Lidell, the former managing director of independent Swedish publishing company Murlyn Songs, has been named to a European role at Universal Music Publishing.

Pelle Lidell, the former managing director of independent Swedish publishing company Murlyn Songs, has been named to a European role at Universal Music Publishing.

Lidell left Murlyn in December 2004. In his new role as A&R executive, he will work regionally with the group's European and global repertoire. Reporting to London-based Paul Connolly, UMP executive VP Europe, Lidell will split his time between UMP's offices in London and Stockholm.

Connolly describes Lidell's success at Murlyn Songs as "phenomenal." He adds that "[Lidell] will be a tremendous addition to the team."

In a statement, Lidell describes himself as "thrilled" to be joining UMP. "I'm coming to a very creative and pro-active music publishing environment," he says, "and to a company where world class artists and songwriters are signed."

At Stockholm-based Murlyn Songs, Lidell signed a string of successful songwriters, including Pelle Bloodshy & Avant, Arnthor and Peer Astrom. Artists recording their material include Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Toni Braxton and Enrique Iglesias.

Prior to Joining Murlyn Songs' production house parent company Murlyn Music as managing director of A&R at in October 1999, Lidell was creative director of A&R at Stockholm-based Air Chrysalis Scandinavia, where he established himself as one of the most highly-rated A&R executives in the region. When he joined Murlyn Music, he co-founded the publishing arm with the parent company's co-owners Anders Bagge and Christian Wahlberg.

The current Murlyn Songs catalog of more than 3,000 copyrights is administered globally by Universal Music Publishing under a deal which expires in 2009.
