Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) is planning to launch a ringtone chart in Germany. The first chart will bow in April 2005 and will be published in German weekly trade publication Musikwoche.

Research company ucp morgen, a member of the MEF, is driving the project. According to MEF chair Ralph Simon, agreements with the leading ringtones suppliers in Germany are under discussion.

The value of the German ringtones market was estimated at $240 million in 2004, accounting for 14% of Europe's total ringtones market, according to research company Informa.

"With the highest ringtone sales in Europe, it is vital that Germany has its own authoritative ringtone chart," comments Claudia Poepperl, head of business development at ucp morgen.

Simon says ringtone charts in other European territories will follow by the end of this year. MEF has existing ringtone charts in the United States and United Kingdom.
