New role "beneficial" to IFPI post.

IFPI chairman/CEO John Kennedy has taken an additional post as a non-executive director for London-based publishing firm Notting Hill Music Group. It is the only music-related commercial role that Kennedy is expected to accept in addition to his post at the trade body.

Commenting on his appointment, Kennedy says that the new role should help broaden his knowledge of the industry. In a statement, he explains that the post will offer a "continuing perspective on the dynamics of the relationship between record companies and publishers that will be beneficial to my role at IFPI."

Kennedy took the helm at IFPI this month. Until last February, he was president/COO of Universal Music International, and was a member of IFPI's executive committee for Europe. Prior to that, he was chairman of Universal Music U.K. and a respected entertainment lawyer.

Notting Hill is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The firm was formed in 1990 as the international repertoire division of Japan's Nippon Television Music. It became Notting Hill Music after a management buyout in 1993 by current president Peter Chalcraft, Andy McQueen (now group chairman) and David Loader (managing director).

The company launched a U.S. division in 2003.
