Jamie Foxx was crowned best actor at the 77th Academy Awards last night (Feb. 27) in Los Angeles for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the hit film "Ray." Foxx was also nominated for best supporting actor for his role in "Collateral," but lost out in that category to veteran actor Morgan Freeman for his work in "Million Dollar Baby."

"Give it up for Ray Charles and his beautiful legacy. And thank you Ray Charles for living," Foxx said during his acceptance speech.

"Ray" lost out in the best picture race to "Million Dollar Baby," which also yielded a best director nod for Clint Eastwood. But "Ray" was recognized with an Oscar for best sound mixing, accepted by Scott Millan, Greg Orloff, Bob Beemer and Steve Cantamessa.

In the two major music-related categories, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek won best original score for "Finding Neverland," while "Al Otro Lado Del Rio" from "the Motorcycle Diaries" was named best original song. The latter was performed during the ABC telecast by Antonio Banderas and Carlos Santana.
