Virgin Electronics, a manufacturer of portable digital music players, is shutting down all operations and product lines.
"Virgin Management Ltd. has decided to exit the electronics business," Virgin Electronics CEO Greg Woock confirms.
Virgin Management oversees such units as music retailer Virgin Digital, Virgin Megastores and Virgin Mobile.
San Jose, Calif.-based Virgin Electronics manufactures several models of digital music players, including 128 MB and 256 MB flash-based devices and a 5 GB model introduced as a competitor to the iPod Mini. The company also makes a mini speaker system for its players.
No timeline was given for the shutdown process.
