EMI Music Belgium is issuing singles in the new DualDisc format.

EMI Music Belgium is issuing singles in the new DualDisc format.

The first batch of titles, issued today (March 10), includes "Hier Bij Jou" by Flemish band Clouseau and "Het Leven is een Cado" by Raymond van het Groenewoud. The singles comprise a music track on the A-side and DVD-quality live footage on the B-side.

"The DualDisc is an absolute premiere for Belgium, and we hope to give new impulse to the singles market here," says Sam Sisk, head of national repertoire at EMI Music Belgium. Sisk says the extra production cost is seen as a "promotion investment."

The DVD layer of "Hier Bij Jou" contains footage from Clouseau's 2004 year-end concerts, which attracted more than 250,000 visitors. "Het Leven is een Cado" has footage of van het Groenewoud's recent concert in Antwerp.

Marcel Heymans, director of IFPI Belgium, says the format adds value to the single. "By combining both, EMI Music is offering the consumer an attractive and complementary alternative," he says.

According to the IFPI, the Belgian market sold 5 million singles in 2003, down from 6.2 million in 2002 and 7.1 million in 2001.
