Leonid Yurgelas has been promoted to general director of MTV Russia.

Based in Moscow, Yurgelas is tasked with overseeing all of MTV Russia's day-to-day creative and commercial operations. He assumes the duties of outgoing MTV Russia president Linda Jensen, who is leaving the country with her family.

In his new role, Yurgelas reports to the MTV Russia board, which is a partnership between MTV Networks and a number of Russia investors.

Most recently, Yurgelas was VP of advertising sales and distribution.

MTV Russia was launched in September 1998 as part of a licensing agreement with Moscow-based Biz Enterprises. MTV Networks bought out Biz' stake in the joint venture in 2002.
