Warner Music Group has named Richard Blackstone as the new chairman/CEO of its publishing division, Warner/Chappell Music.

Blackstone will leave his post as president of Zomba Music Publishing after his contract expires at the end of the year. He will succeed Warner/Chappell chairman/CEO Les Bider, who in February announced his decision to step down following appointment of a successor.

WMG chairman/CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. says he is "confident that Warner/Chappell and its roster of world-class composers will benefit from [Blackstone's] energetic and innovative approach to today's rapidly evolving music publishing business."

While at Zomba, Blackstone has worked with songwriters and performers such as R. Kelly, Linkin Park, Justin Timberlake, 'NSync, Macy Gray, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Keith Stegall, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS-One and numerous others.

Recording Academy president Neil Portnow, who left his post as Zomba Group senior VP of West Coast operations to join the Academy, tells Billboard.biz he has "the utmost respect and admiration for his business acumen, forward and creative thinking, and especially for his artist-friendly persona."

Blackstone joined Zomba in 1989 as director of business affairs.
