British marketing-leading retailer HMV has elevated John Taylor to oversee its online and Internet activities. In his new post as HMV U.K. & Ireland E-Commerce director, Taylor succeeds Stuart Rowe. Rowe resigned from that role in order to "pursue other career interests," HMV says in a statement.

Taylor has served as marketing director since 1997. As part of his remit, he will oversee the development and delivery of HMV's new digital download service, which is due to launch in the second half of this year. As previously reported, MusicNet will power the service.

Taylor will head a 30-strong team. Internet manager Helen Gourley, E-Commerce development manager Gary Coller, and head of digital Mark Bennett each report to Taylor. In turn, Taylor reports to HMV Europe managing director Steve Knott.

An announcement on his successor as marketing director will be made in due course. HMV head of retail marketing Ged Hopkins will manage the marketing department in an acting capacity.
