LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) -- The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has named a new national executive director, elevating Kim Roberts Hedgpeth to the top slot after eight years as associate national executive director.

The decision was made April 30 during a national board plenary meeting and based on a unanimous recommendation of a joint working group of AFTRA's administrative committee and national officers. The appointment was expected because Hedgpeth had been acting NED since April 21, after Greg Hessinger resigned to serve as NED of sister guild Screen Actors' Guild.

AFTRA national president John Connolly said Hedgpeth had already proven herself by making the transition with the "gentle grace, quiet power and keen intelligence that is the mark of a true leader."
