EMI Music's CFO Stuart Ells has been promoted to COO and regional director.

In addition to being in charge of the company's global functions such as logistics and legal & business affairs, he takes direct responsibility for EMI Music's operations in Latin America, Asia, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Based in London, he continues to report to Alain Levy and David Munns, EMI Music's chairman/CEO and vice chairman, respectively. Ells will continue to manage the company's finance organization until a successor is found.

"Stuart has a deep knowledge of the business around the world and he has made an enormous contribution to the company's delivery of its goals over the past three years," Levy said in a statement. "His help in overseeing our operations in the southern hemisphere will be invaluable to us as we move forward."

Ells has been CFO for EMI Music since March 2002. He joined the company from Andrew Lloyd Webber's the Really Useful Group, where he was a director and CFO from 1999.
