Sony BMG Music Entertainment France chairman/CEO Olivier Montfort will leave the company in the coming weeks, Billboard.biz has learned.

Montfort was appointed last November at the helm of the Paris-based affiliate. Prior to that, he was president/CEO of Sony Music France since 2000.

Since joining the group, Montfort has been involved in the merger of the two companies, resulting in the lay-off of 180 employees.

Sources say Montfort was informed of his fate at the beginning of the week by Maarten Steinkamp, president of Continental Europe for Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

It is believed that Christophe Lameignere -- who last November was appointed executive VP of Sony BMG France and president of the company's music division -- will take over from Montfort. Lameignere was previously president of the music division of BMG France.

Neither Montfort, nor Steinkamp were available for comment.
