Band in on-air chat with S.F. mayor.

San Francisco mayor Gavin Newson displayed his hip factor Thursday (May 5) by calling local adult top 40 KLLC to chat with Coldplay on-air. Newson, who is 36, expressed his admiration for the band and welcomed the members to the Bay area.

Lead singer Chris Martin and drummer Will Champion, in turn, invited the mayor to see the band's live show at the legendary Fillmore, where 1,100 tickets sold out in just minutes. They also quizzed Newsom about his political aspirations and wished him well in the future.

Also during the on-air interview with KLLC, the band talked about U.K. elections, Martin's daughter Apple and wife Gwyneth Paltrow.

Sadly, Newson did not make it to the live Coldplay gig. He had a previous commitment to attend a gala at the San Francisco Museum of Art.
