Univision Communications revealed today (May 16) the launch of Univision Home Entertainment and a new DVD label, Unicine.

Univision Communications announced today (May 16) the launch of Univision Home Entertainment and a new DVD label, Unicine.

Unicine releases will be culled from Univision Television Networks' Spanish-language movie library. Titles will be distributed and marketed by Ventura Entertainment's Studio Latino division.

The label's first releases are due May 24. The titles, a mix of drama, action and comedy, include "La Diosa del Puerto, " "Corazón de Tequila" and "Sinaloa." None of the titles have been released on DVD in the U.S.

Univision Home Entertainment will be headed by Univision Television Group president Michael D. Wortsman, and will be based in Los Angeles.

The launch of the division is based on growing demand for Spanish-language DVDs, according to a company statement. Hispanic Americans are about 14% of the total U.S. population, and only 1% of DVDs sold in the U.S. last year were in Spanish.
