France Telecom is extending its interest in digital music through a significant deal with Warner Music International covering a string of European markets.

Through the agreement, full-length WMI tracks, ringtones, ringback tones and music videos will be distributed to customers of France Telecom and its affiliates Orange and Wanadoo.

The Orange mobile phone network operates in six European markets -- the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Slovakia, Romania, Netherlands and France -- and has interests in Austria, Belgium and Portugal. Wandoo's Web portals service consumers in France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Spain.

Moreover, France Telecom's fixed-line customers will be able to purchase ringback tones, which callers can listen to instead of dial tones.

"This agreement with one of the world's leading music majors demonstrates France Telecom's integrated operator strategy to publish and distribute secure content services," says the telco in a statement.

France Telecom and WMI have also agreed to research and jointly develop other unspecified music-related services.
