Norman Cheng has been named to the new position of chairman, EMI Music Asia. Cheng assumes regional responsibility for the company's operations in Japan in addition to his existing duties as chairman/CEO of EMI Music Southeast Asia.

He will continue to be based at EMI Music Asia's regional headquarters in Hong Kong, reporting to Stuart Ells, COO and regional director of EMI Music.

Shoji Doyama will assume Masaaki Saito's duties as CEO of Tokyo-based Toshiba-EMI.

Saito, who had been the label's CEO for the past eight years, became chairman/CEO in January when Doyama joined TOEMI as its president. Doyama, who was previously executive VP of Tokyo-based BMG Funhouse, takes over from Saito as Toshiba-EMI's representative director.

Both Doyama and Saito will report to Cheng. Their appointments will be formalized at a TOEMI shareholders' meeting on June 30.

TOEMI is a joint venture between EMI Music and Toshiba. Its roster of artists includes Utada Hikaru, Sheena Ringo, Hitomi Yaida and Yumi Matsutoya.
